Job Description

Zappos is seeking a Web Development Engineer to drive the vision, development, and optimization of our customer-facing digital shopping experience. This role owns both the technical execution and operational content delivery across Zappos' homepage, landing pages, editorial collections, promotions, and seasonal storytelling surfaces. You will help accelerate front-end innovation while ensuring flawless daily execution of site content.

As a technical leader embedded in the Marketing organization, you will collaborate closely with Designers, Merchandisers, Creative, UX, and Software Development partners to build scalable components, improve workflows, and deliver a best-in-class customer experience across web and mobile. You will balance hands-on engineering work with day-to-day content publishing, ensuring accuracy, speed, and brand alignment.

The ideal candidate is a customer-obsessed builder with strong UI development skills, operational discipline, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Key job responsibilities

Build and maintain scalable, reusable components and templates used across customer-facing surfaces.

Implement responsive, accessible, and high-performance UI in partnership with UX and Creative.

Partner with engineers to troubleshoot front-end issues, resolve defects, and enhance CMS-driven workflows.

Participate in code reviews, documentation, and continuous improvement efforts that raise the bar for front-end quality.

Own daily content publishing across Zappos' digital properties, ensuring accuracy, brand consistency, and on-time delivery.

Update homepage modules, landing pages, promotional content, navigational elements, and editorial features through internal tools and CMS.

Build, QA, and schedule translated and localized content for international experiences.

Ensure content is structured and implemented in a way that meets UX, SEO, and performance best practices.

Maintain menus, metadata, directories, archives, and file system organization.

Support WebLabs and experimentation workflows by developing test variations and capturing insights.

Perform competitive analysis and leverage data to inform improvements in layout, functionality, and customer flow.

Collaborate with Marketing, Creative, Merchandising, CRM, and Tech partners to deliver high-quality, cohesive experiences.

Lead or support operational workstreams for key campaigns (Seasonal launches, Gift Guides, cultural/brand moments).

Communicate technical constraints, propose scalable solutions, and influence content and marketing strategies.

Conduct browser/device testing to ensure consistent functionality across platforms.

Maintain backups, archives, and documentation for content and components.

Proactively identify workflow bottlenecks and introduce automation where possible.
