Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week night shift Telemetry (4W) travel contract at an acute care hospital in Bakersfield, CA, requiring active CA RN licensure and a minimum of 2 years of telemetry experience.

Details

• Acute care hospital telemetry unit (4W) with 31 beds (11 private and 10 semi-private)
• Patient population includes post-pacer, new onset A-fib/RVR, ICU step-down, surgical, urology (cystoscopy), oncology with cardiac monitoring needs, stroke, TBI, sepsis, PEG tube, and nursing home patients — approximately one-third from nursing home settings
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
• Philips telemetry monitoring in use; ability to read and interpret all cardiac rhythms is essential
• EMR: Cerner
• No IV team on unit; RT available 24/7; Pharmacy available 24/7 with Omnicell
• Shift Manager and Resource Nurse serve as charge coverage; CNAs available (2 on days, 1 on nights)
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend (EOW) required; weekend nights are Friday/Saturday
• Travelers are first to float and may float between sister facilities under the same license to units such as MedSurg remote tele, MedSurg, ICU tele/MS holds, or ER holds
• On-call/standby requirement: must be able to report to the facility within 30 minutes if placed on standby

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN telemetry experience required
• Ability to read and interpret all cardiac rhythms
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• A driver's license must be provided for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)

Additional Information

• 1–2 shift floor-specific orientation with a preceptor
• Travelers are expected to work into the permanent staff holiday rotation, covering 1 major and 1 minor holiday
• Scrub color is navy blue; scrub jackets and undershirts must be navy, white, or black
• A Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) must be passed before an offer can be confirmed — contact your recruiter to arrange the exam
• A pass/fail skills assessment on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation
