Summary

This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while minimizing disruption to traffic flow during construction activities.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the setup, maintenance, and removal of traffic control devices such as signage, barricades, cones, and flaggers.
  • Monitor traffic control operations for compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements (MUTCD, OSHA, DOT).
  • Conduct site assessments to identify potential traffic hazards and provide mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors, public agencies, and utility companies to coordinate lane closures, detours, and work zone activities.
  • Obtain and manage necessary permits for road closures and traffic control plans.
  • Respond to traffic-related incidents and adjust control measures as needed to ensure public and worker safety.
  • Provide training and guidance to flaggers and other personnel on proper traffic control procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of traffic control operations, incidents, and changes to TMPs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in traffic control or construction site coordination, preferably in heavy civil infrastructure (roads, bridges, highways, utilities).
  • Certification in Traffic Control (e.g., ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor or equivalent) is highly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of traffic control regulations, safety standards, and work zone safety practices.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, maps, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency in using TMP design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Invarion RapidPlan) is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
