Job Description

As a Pharmacy Intern at Giant Eagle, you will work within our in-store pharmacy in the Healthcare & Medical Services department, supporting licensed pharmacists in delivering safe, accurate, and friendly pharmaceutical care to our customers. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, you will assist with processing prescriptions, entering and verifying patient and medication information, counting and packaging medications, and helping ensure that all prescriptions are dispensed accurately and on time. You will interact with customers at the pharmacy counter and over the phone, answering basic questions, collecting necessary information, and referring clinical or complex issues to the pharmacist, always maintaining a warm, customer-first approach. In this role, you will help manage pharmacy inventory by receiving, stocking, and organizing medications and supplies, checking for out-of-date products, and helping maintain a clean, well-ordered, and compliant pharmacy environment. You will become familiar with pharmacy management software, insurance claim processing, and third-party billing, assisting in resolving routine rejections or coverage questions under pharmacist guidance. You will support medication safety practices by following established procedures, double-checking information, and promptly reporting any concerns to the pharmacist to protect patient health and meet regulatory standards. Giant Eagle’s culture emphasizes teamwork, innovation, and respect, and as a Pharmacy Intern you will collaborate closely with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and store team members to provide efficient, compassionate service. You will be encouraged to ask questions, seek feedback, and participate in on-the-job learning opportunities that build your clinical knowledge, communication skills, and understanding of community pharmacy operations. While your primary focus will be on pharmacy tasks, you will also contribute to overall store service standards by greeting customers, supporting health and wellness initiatives, and helping create a positive experience for every guest. This internship is designed to complement your Doctor of Pharmacy education by giving you hands-on exposure to real-world pharmacy practice in a community setting. You will observe and support activities such as medication therapy management, immunization programs where allowed by law and training, and counseling workflows, gaining insight into how pharmacists manage patient care, safety, and regulatory responsibilities. Throughout your time at Giant Eagle, you will be expected to uphold HIPAA and privacy regulations, follow all state board of pharmacy rules for interns, and consistently model professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail. Working a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends, you will help ensure the pharmacy operates smoothly and efficiently, aligning with Giant Eagle’s commitment to excellent service and community involvement. This position offers the opportunity to grow your skills, contribute meaningfully to patient care, and prepare for future licensure and practice as a pharmacist, all within a supportive, collaborative supermarket pharmacy environment.
