Revenues are derived from major special events, corporate and individual giving, visitor receipts, gift shop revenues, and major grant fundraising – foundation, family, and government.

THE POSITION

Position Title: Education Outreach Coordinator

Location: Skokie, IL or Chicago, IL

Reports To: Director of Education 

The Education Outreach Coordinator builds and nurtures relationships to connect students, teachers, administrators, and community organizations with the Museum’s mission. This position leads outreach efforts to school grades 3-12, colleges and universities, supplementary programs, youth non-profits, law enforcement agencies, and after-school and summer camp programs.

The Education Outreach Coordinator is accountable for driving measurable growth in program participation, maintaining consistent engagement with both new and returning communities, and moving groups from initial contact to deeper, sustained involvement in the Museum's programs and resources — including student field trips, teacher training, Mobile VR, Literature Trunks, Student Leadership Days, and law enforcement trainings.

Additionally, this position supports a range of Education Department initiatives, including teacher and volunteer professional development, leadership programs, and public programming.

This is a full-time position that requires some evening and weekend availability. The position is primarily based at our Skokie Museum, with occasional travel/on-site days required at our Experience360 satellite location in downtown Chicago through December 31, 2026. 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

The Education Outreach Coordinator’s primary responsibilities include: 

• Develop and execute an annual outreach plan with clear, measurable goals that reflect internal and external strategies to meet yearly Education Department participation targets;
• Actively engage educators, administrators, law enforcement personnel, and community staff by phone, email, Zoom, and in person;
• Identifying and cultivating new schools, agencies, and youth programs while strengthening relationships with ongoing contacts;
• Manage, develop, analyze, and maintain outreach contact lists and databases used for outreach campaigns to engage new and returning participants across the full range of department programming;
• Develop and implement outreach campaigns through active participation in district, regional, and law enforcement conferences and resource fairs, and through targeted outreach communications (e-blasts, flyers, and mailers);
• Oversee the creation of the weekly Educator E-blast and maintain its subscriber list;
• Lead outreach, scheduling, and on-site coordination and oversight for the LEAD law enforcement training program, serving as the primary point of contact for law enforcement partners;
• Track, record, and analyze participation data and demographics across education programs, producing clear, actionable reports to assess whether program outputs and outcomes are meeting goals;
• Monitor updates to current state and national learning standards to ensure all department programming remains aligned and to inform initiative updates as needed;
• Distribute and monitor evaluations for assigned education initiatives, including field trip surveys, to identify concerns and inform program alignment and growth;
• Coordinate all in-service professional development programs, including outreach to engage new participants and coordination with facilitators;
• Support colleagues across departments, with special projects and initiatives as assigned, including but not limited to staffing special events, and assisting with gathering data for grants;
• Other responsibilities as assigned by Manager, Senior Leadership Team Member, or CEO.

THE PERSON

Education | Experience

• Degree in education or related field required;
• 4-5 years of experience in an education or outreach-focused role;
• Prior K-12 classroom or administration experience preferred.

• Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to convey information clearly and concisely;
• Ability to think strategically and creatively with a focus on audience retention and making recommendations for new opportunities to advance the museum’s mission;
• Experience working on collaborative teams with solution-oriented disposition;
• Ability to multitask and coordinate different responsibilities while staying efficient in responsiveness;
• Strong research and analytic proficiency;
• Ability to forge and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of representatives of public schools, private schools, organizations, volunteers, vendors, Museum staff, and the public;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

SALARY AND BENEFITS

• Salary range is $55,000 to $60,000. Salary for the position will be based on qualifications and experience. This is a salaried and exempt position;

Physical Requirements

May need to climb up and down stairs; to bend, stoop, and lift or move materials and retrieve files; to pull/push, lift, and carry up to 25 pounds; spend considerable time on feet; and to reach both above and below shoulder height.
